New homes in Hemel Hempstead

The Hertfordshire town of Hemel Hempstead is often described as two towns in one. At once filled with modern houses and new services, but with historic buildings and winding streets.

Sitting at the centre of the transport network into London, Euston station is just half an hour away by train. Driving just 10 minutes down the M1 takes you to the M25, while Heathrow is just 25 minutes away by car.

Hemel Hempstead easily has its fair share of independent shops, particularly in and around the old town, which are well worth an afternoon of exploring. For high street retailers the Marlowes shopping centre offers a wide variety of well-known brands. While you’re out, take some time to enjoy a coffee in some of the fashionable cafés dotted around the town.

For the more adventurous, the XC extreme sports centre lets you experience indoor skate boarding, rock climbing and potholing. Nearby is the UK’s largest indoor ski slope, which offers a range of snow-based sports using the real stuff all year round.

There are also two 18-hole golf courses and several swimming clubs, some of which have coached some of the best swimmers in the region. Meanwhile, a multiplex cinema and an ice-skating rink can be found in the Jarman Park leisure complex.

Hemel Hempstead has many well-performing primary schools, including Pixies Hill, Chaulden Infants, Micklem, St Rose’s Catholic Infants. Excellent secondary schools include John F Kennedy Catholic, the Hemel Hempstead School, The Collett School, Longdean and Astley Cooper.
