Situated six miles south of Sunderland and thirteen miles east of Durham, Seaham is a well-connected harbour town based on the
Durham Heritage Coast.
Tourists travel far and wide to collect colourful Seaham glass from one of the area’s many beaches, which has kept the town packed with plenty of family-friendly bars and restaurants to enjoy. Those with a sweet tooth will love the retro dessert parlour, Lickety Split, and the huge selection of fish and chip bars.
Beyond the seaside favourites, other local spots provide everything from Italian to Thai food. There are also lots of traditional British pubs and contemporary cocktail bars, including Port of Call, which hosts regular quiz nights.
Rail routes from Seaham railway station make it easy to get to nearby cities with
Hartlepool just 20 minutes away, 35 minutes to
Newcastle, 50 minutes to
Middlesborough and Durham an hour and a half away.
It’s just a 10 minute drive to Dalton Park shopping outlet, packed with discounted designer brands as well as lunch spots and Cineworld to keep the whole family entertained. Seaham also has local shopping centres featuring supermarkets and high-street stores, while nearby Durham has a bustling independent retail scene.
A number of Ofsted-rated Good schools are in the area, including Westlea Primary School and Seaham High school, as well as a selection of sports clubs and performing arts classes.
