More than £3K raised for Birmingham Children's Hospital

Homebuilder Miller Homes West Midlands has revealed it raised £3,343 throughout 2021 to support the vital services provided by Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The hospital, which was Miller Homes’ chosen charity partner for 2021 and 2022, is a UK leading specialist paediatric centre, offering services to treat illnesses including heart conditions, liver and kidney disease and cancer. It also has expert departments in organ transplants, epilepsy surgery and child and adolescent mental health.

Fundraising events throughout the year included a lockdown walking challenge in March 2021. The “Miller miles challenge’ saw Miller Homes employees across the country walking as many miles as possible throughout the month-long event. For every mile walked, Miller Homes donated £1 to regional charity partners, and employees raised further funds through friends and family sponsorships.

The West Midlands team walked over 1,000 miles, raising over £1,000 which was matched pound for pound by Miller Homes. Throughout the year additional fundraising events have taken place including raffles and office dress down days.

Commenting on the team’s fundraising efforts, Alastair Parsons, area sales director for Miller Homes Midlands, said:

“Hospitals across the nation have been extremely overwhelmed over the past two years and have had to continue providing their care regardless of the difficult conditions caused by the pandemic. After long periods of isolation and a series of lockdowns, in-person fundraising opportunities decreased, massively affecting the many charities and trusts across the country that depend on external contributions.

“We have seen what amazing work Birmingham Children’s Hospital does and the incredible support they provide for young people and families not just in Birmingham, but across the country. So, it has been great to be able to do our bit to raise funds for them and to see the whole team get together for a really worthy cause.”

Dearbhla Craddock, corporate partnership officer at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, commented:

“We were thrilled to have been chosen as Miller Homes West Midlands’ charity partner for 2021 and again in 2022. Birmingham Children’s Hospital is a specialist paediatric centre and a world leader in some of the most advanced treatments, surgical procedures and research. By receiving funds from external sources such as Miller Homes, we are able to continue being at the top of our field while ensuring we continue providing all our patients and families with excellent levels of care and support.

“On behalf of myself, the doctors, nurses and all of our patients, I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Miller Homes who took part in the fundraising activities. As a hospital, we don’t have the option to furlough our services; we have to keep supporting and treating our young patients regardless. By receiving these funds, we have the comfort of knowing we can continue to provide our vital physical, mental and emotional services.”

Birmingham Children’s Hospital is located close to Miller Homes’ new Rectory Gardens neighbourhood in Sutton Coldfield which is due to open in Summer 2022. The development will offer 121 two, three and four-bedroom homes and is part of a regeneration project on former Ministry of Defence land.
