A Family Affair At North Berwick

It’s a true family affair at Miller Homes’ new Ferrygate Meadow development in North Berwick with five members of the same family all helping to build the new homes.

Jim Martin (55), Project Manager from Livingston is joined on site by his daughter Laura (31) who is a Trainee Site Manager and three sons – Jim (39) a Forklift Truck Operator, and Shaun (29) and William (34) both Joiners.

One of Miller Homes’ most respected and decorated Site Managers, Jim has seven NHBC Pride in the Job Awards so is in a perfect position to oversee the building of North Berwick’s latest community of new homes.

Ferrygate Meadow is Laura’s first development as a Trainee Site Manager and she hopes to soon follow in her dad’s footsteps as Site Manager. She said: “There aren’t many women in construction but given the whole family has building in their blood, it made sense for me to join in. I trained as an architect technician so I’ve got a good understanding of house building but it’s exciting to be on the ground seeing a major development come together. It’s nice being on-site with my dad and brothers, we have a good laugh and at least they all know how I like my tea.”

Building work is well underway at the new Ferrygate Meadow development with the first homes due to be complete in March. The show home will open in early Spring 2017.
