Young Couple Buy First Home with FirstBuy

Saving a deposit for a new home whilst paying rent is a pretty tall order by anyone’s standards but one young couple discovered that there are options available to help first time buyers.

Keeley Dunn, a Product Manager, and partner David Frost, a chef, both aged 24 from West Yorkshire, were stuck in the renting cycle when they heard about the Government-led FirstBuy scheme offered by Miller Homes which helps buyers take a first step onto the property ladder negating the need for the much feared high deposit.

“Renting and trying to save was incredibly demoralising and we were beginning to think we would never be able to buy,” said Keeley. “Then we heard about FirstBuy with Miller Homes at its Stonebridge Fold development and when we explored the criteria found that we qualified we were delighted!”

Keeley and David bought a three bedroom ‘Hanwood’ house thorough the FirstBuy scheme. Currently priced at £172,500 you could pay just £138,000 now under Firstbuy which would require a deposit of around £8,000. The scheme helps buyers onto the property ladder, not just those purchasing for the first time meaning that if you qualify, you could only need a five percent deposit of the purchase price of the property. Miller Homes and the Government could give you a twenty per cent equity loan meaning you could only need a mortgage of the remaining seventy five per cent of the purchase price. 

“Firstbuy threw us a much needed lifeline and allowed us to fulfil our dream of owning our first home,” said Keeley. “The whole Miller Homes team helped us from start to finish and we are so happy living at Stonebridge Fold, it is a fantastic place to call home and is close to everything we need.”
