The
East Lothian harbour town of Musselburgh sits on the coast of the Firth of Forth. With its historic past, characterful architecture and proximity to
Edinburgh, it’s a highly desirable place to live.
The centre of the Scottish capital is just five miles away, connecting you to all the unique sights and experiences it has to offer. It’s just a 15-minute drive, or six minutes by train from Musselburgh’s own station to Edinburgh Waverley.
Musselburgh has a thriving high street and town centre, with a good mix of independent shops and cafés and household names, as well as several supermarkets. For large stores, Fort Kinnaird retail park is just 10 minutes’ drive away.
As its name suggests, Musselburgh is built around it’s history of fishing. There are several restaurants, together with a selection of bars and pubs in which to catch up with friends.
The town is home to two world-renowned sports venues. Musselburgh Links is the oldest continuously-played golf course in the world, having once hosted Mary Queen of Scots and, in more recent times, the Open Championship. Encircling it, Musselburgh Racecourse is Scotland’s second-largest horse racing venue.
Two secondary schools are also found here. Musselburgh Grammar School is one of the oldest schools in the country, whilst the leading Loretto School — a private boarding school for all ages — is at the far end of the high street. The town also has several well-regarded primary schools.
