Why Beige Is The New Grey

Why Beige Is The New Grey
Move over grey, beige is making a resurgence for spring/summer 2019. From home interiors to the catwalk, beige is the colour of the movement proving it's anything but bland.

Over the last decade we've seen a sizeable rise in the popularity for cool greys, shaping the colour schemes of many homes across the UK. While grey is somewhat of a timeless classic for interiors, the feeling of warmth and sophistication neutral beige tones bring is taking centre stage this season.

Here's how you can add a splash of beige to your own home interiors...

On the walls

Painting your walls beige doesn't have to be boring or dull. Nicely done, it can create a homely feel, and is a colour which lends itself to meshing well with lots of other shades. Off-white, sandy hues and camel tones are all soft yet won't go unnoticed, and can be reinvented time and time again with the addition of new artwork and accessories. Varieties of beige each have different undertones which diversifies the shade even further - for advice on which is right for your home, it's always worth asking a paint specialist in your local DIY store.

Complementary shades

Avoid your beige walls looking flat and bland by adding contrasting colours and textures to your room setting. Mirrored furniture will open up the space and reflect lots of light, chunky wooden furniture in dark colours will jump our from the subtle wall colour, and thick curtains in a statement colour will bring a pop - this colour can also be placed  throughout the room with accessories to blend the scheme together.

Contemporary accessories

If adding beige to your walls seems like a big step in bringing this old favourite back to life, why not incorporate beige tones into your home accessories first? With all trends the colour palette is essential, so when it comes to accessorising think earthy browns and biscuit beige's. For texture, a chunky knitted throw or thick rug are great additions. Considering practicality too, jute storage baskets are always handy. Or for a real statement, theme your sofa and go for a soft fabric style.

Bedroom inspiration

Beige is a comforting and warm colour, as opposed to traditional whites which might be viewed as cold. These warmed shades create a cosy bedroom environment and can be easily implemented. Introduce washed linen bedding, throw cushions and a feature armchair if you have a large setting.
